What is this chakra all about? Keep reading and feel free to save the photos for later. This activation is part of a series and I already have posted Root Chakra, Sacral Chakra, Solar Plexus, and Heart Chakra Reiki activation videos to use in meditation and healing.
The Throat Chakra, or Vishuddha, refers to the fifth chakra. It spins just at the top of your collarbone, where the V shape takes form. Fittingly, this chakra has to do with speaking your truth and expressing yourself through the use of your voice. Vishuddha chakra bridges the heart and the mind. When this space is clear, the wisdom of both is integrated and profound spiritual truths flow freely.
Imbalances in the Throat Chakra
Emotional signs that the throat chakra may be blocked are feelings of depression, anxiety, or low self-esteem. This may be worsened by being unable to express those feelings. A throat chakra blockage is often associated with the inability to speak. Something needs to be said, but you just can’t seem to work up the nerve to spit it out. Or you want to say something, but find a lump in your throat or a catch in your voice. This imbalance may also manifest as a fear of speaking in public or even talking openly with people you know. A blocked vishuddha chakra may make you unwilling or unable to speak up to defend yourself, express your opinion, or state your choices. When difficult conversations arise, you may shut down rather than speak up.
How to Balance the Throat Chakra
When your throat chakra is open and balanced, you will find that you are not only able to speak fearlessly and with compassion, but you will also be open to listening to and hearing others. Being able to talk openly and honestly—but with care and concern for others—is a gift to all your relationships. You’ll be able to articulate your ideas, feelings and opinions clearly. When you’re able to express thoughts with clarity, you may also find that you feel heard and understood. There are a number of practices that can help you heal and balance your throat chakra and the first advice is to protect your neck and throat! Wrap up when it is cold and follow the practice of professional singers who rely on warm tea and honey to keep the throat in fine shape. You can chant, sing, or hum to start your throat literally vibrating. Do neck stretches and roll your head to keep this area loosened up. Another idea is to increase the "blue" in your life, because this chakra is associated with the color blue. You can wear it in clothes/jewelry or eat it in the fruits and vegetables that you enjoy. One final idea is the Lion's Breath breathing technique. It’s thought to help ease stress, get rid of toxins, and stimulate your throat and chest area. To practice this breath you can repeat these steps a few times:
Inhale through your nose.
Open your eyes and mouth wide.
Stick out your tongue, and “roar” your breath out audibly — the breath of your exhale should be loud like a lion’s roar.
