What is this chakra all about? Keep reading and feel free to save the photos for later. This activation is part of a series and I already have posted Root Chakra, Sacral Chakra, and Solar Plexus chakra Reiki activation videos to use in meditation and healing.
The Heart Chakra, or Anahata, refers to the fourth chakra. It is located in the heart. In Sanskrit Anahata means “unhurt” or “unbeaten” and this chakra serves as our center of love for oneself and others, compassion, empathy, and forgiveness.
The Heart Chakra is all about connecting and relating. The emphasis here is on love, giving and receiving, and how open we are in relationships. Love is the energy that helps transfigure emotions and experiences. It’s an essential element in any relationship, whether it is with others or oneself.
Imbalances in the Heart Chakra
The Heart Chakra is the home of unconditional love. When this chakra is blocked, it can be associated with fear and even hatred. (When this chakra is aligned and feeling good, you find that you feel open, loved, and loving, and that unconditional love flows easily through you.) When the energy in this chakra is not balanced, you can feel scared, fearful, hurt, and perhaps angry. It's often said that the opposite of love is fear, so an imbalance can manifest as a tight, fearful feeling in your chest. If you've been really hurt, the love you once had can turn into "stuck" emotions. Imbalance usually manifests in the form of an intense fear of rejection, trust issues in a committed relationship, facing problems with the act of bestowing and receiving affection, over-dependence on the partner, behaving distantly with people you love, and appearing tough and unemotional so no one sees how vulnerable you are inside. You might feel hard-hearted, brokenhearted, unhappy, lonely, insecure, easily hurt, or unable to receive love. One might choose to lead with the head and not the heart, to grow distant from others and put up walls, to shut down emotionally, or to hold onto resentment or bitterness.
How to Balance the Heart Chakra
Of course, you want you to have an open, healed, and happy Heart Chakra so that life is full of love, joy, and open-heartedness! One way to open and balance the Heart Chakra would be to engage in activities that spark love, passion, and joy. Whatever prompts a smile — do that! In addition, try to express gratitude. There is something about thankfulness that seems to make the heart radiate love and positive energy, and incorporating a habit such as writing in a gratitude journal into a daily routine could be a powerful way to keep the Heart Chakra in alignment. Don’t forget about self-care! By putting personal needs first, caring for others doesn’t have to lead to burnout. Only by loving ourselves well can we, in turn, pour out to love others well. Finally, meditation can help you restore your energy flow. Since meditation is such a deeply personal experience, you should take time to find a practice that works best for you. I have created a Reiki Infused Heart Chakra Activation, which you can see below. You can read the affirmations as the video progresses or just close your eyes and focus on your breath.
